The speed gauge for mine electric locomotives SR is designed to determine the travelling speed of mine accumulator locomotives in gas- and dust-dangerous mines, as well as for trolley locomotives.
The speed gauge measures the electric locomotive speed and its trail by indirect method providing for direct measurement of railway motor rotation frequency with its calculation in the travelling speed value and covered kilometers.
The speed and trails are measured irrespective of the electric locomotive driving direction.

The sensor is installed in the gear box cover, and the observer (indicating unit) – in the locomotive cabin wherever convenient for observation.
Permissibility of the speed gauge is ensured by the type of protection “explosion-proof enclosure” according to GOST 22782.6-81 and is ensured by encasing the electric parts, with the case withstanding explosion pressure from inside and eliminating transfer of explosion into environment.
